Clamp Phone Holder for Creta

Image
Was looking for a phone holder for our Creta that wouldn’t fall down while driving on bumpy and dismal roads of India. Found this gem for ₹1,448 . It can clamp on to the edge of your console organizer and holds the phone in exactly the right position. A piece of advice, cover the screw with some heat shrink sleeve and tape so that the groves of the screw don’t damage the edge of the console organizer.   Improved version made from stuff bought from Mr DIY, because the clamp kept falling off whenever you the phone by mistake or went over a speed bump. Had to cut off the clamp behind the holder to  stick the steel plate there. Steel plates stuck to the back of the holder using Feviquick

If it were upto my mom (I have the Standard Indian Middle Class Version), she would have continued to use this wooden chopping board for another decade. But her kharchila beta, will save her from herself. Lets make her regret going on a vacation.😂 Buy:  Mango Wood Chopping Wood

non-VESA Mount

Image
The tale of the non-VESA monitor Never buy a monitor that doesn’t have a VESA mounting hole . But in case someone dumps a working one on you. There are mounts available for monitors without VESA mounting hole. And if there is very little gap between the wall and your monitor, you would want to get one of these right angled HDMI Couplers: https://amzn.to/3XVX628 or https://amzn.to/3Y4SMh7   A Type C to HDMI with charging pass through would be a nice addition as well And if you want a place for your speakers get a shelf    The table is from Ikea External Monitor and Bluetooth Mouse For extra screen real estate, get a Type C Monitor . And finally a bluetooth mouse trumps a regular wireless mouse - coz no dongles! Freed up USB port.

Broom Holder

Image
Yup, like our moms, we too keep the broom behind our kitchen door. But we did one better. We installed a broom holder to make the broom bristles stay straight and last longer. Also its neat and the broom doesn't get kicked around much.

RO Waste Water Storage Tank

Image
We have a under the counter RO water purifier. Even though it smarted switches to non-RO mode when not required, the quantity of water being wasted in RO mode was still huge. It felt irresponsible letting all that water to go to waste, so I looked for a solution. We found the solution in the form of this tank that you can install over the sink. The water exiting out of the purifier can be stored in this tank and later used for washing utensils or watering plants. The tank has tap. The waste water from the purifier is under some pressure so the outlet pipe can be bought back over the counter and inserted into this tank. Once the tank is full the extra water overflows via another pipe that can be routed back into the kitchen sink. But we ran into a problem. We had install this tank in March 2023 and 6-7 months later it developed cracks. When the tank is full it weighs quite a lot and the stress on the plastic around the mount points was probably a lot so it cracked. We repaired it using...

Noisy Castor Wheels #FAIL

Image
DIY Counter example: Bought a Porto Study Table from Home Canvas Thought I would put caster wheels on it to make it easy to move around, so bought me a set of these wheels and mounted them on the table. The wheels were extremely easy to mount. But they created such jarring noises when I moved the table around, that I had to remove them   With Castor Wheel - Noisy!  Here is a video of me moving the table around without the wheels on - didn't actually take that much effort in and didn't create a ruckus. Don't know what I was thinking - there was no problem here worth solving in the first place. #DIY fail Without Castor Wheel - Not Noisy!

AC Drip Tray

Image
A  Jugaad  proper solution for redirecting water dripping from AC's outdoor unit away from your clothes    AC Drain Tray Magnetic Attachment for Badges Loctite Epoxy Plastics Bonders 1/2" inch CPVC pipe & 2 135 degree joints from local H/W shop Aluminum Hanger  Use Loctite plastics bonder to stick the badge magnet directly to drip tray. Leave out the adhesive metal sticker parts - those aren't needed. Using magnets this way makes the tray detachable leaving the AC ODU unharmed. Attach the and position the drip tray properly over the point from where the water is dripping. Then attach the CPVC joints and pipe to divert the water away from where you don't want it to drip. Use aluminum hanger to anchor the pipe. Spray paint the pipe if you want. Use 3M Scotch Extreme Double Sided Tape between outside wall of the drip outlet and the inside the wall of CPVC angle to stick them together
