RO Waste Water Storage Tank
We have a under the counter RO water purifier. Even though it smarted switches to non-RO mode when not required, the quantity of water being wasted in RO mode was still huge. It felt irresponsible letting all that water to go to waste, so I looked for a solution.
We found the solution in the form of this tank that you can install over the sink. The water exiting out of the purifier can be stored in this tank and later used for washing utensils or watering plants. The tank has tap.
The waste water from the purifier is under some pressure so the outlet pipe can be bought back over the counter and inserted into this tank. Once the tank is full the extra water overflows via another pipe that can be routed back into the kitchen sink. But we ran into a problem.
We had install this tank in March 2023 and 6-7 months later it developed cracks. When the tank is full it weighs quite a lot and the stress on the plastic around the mount points was probably a lot so it cracked. We repaired it using m-seal.
The manufacturer probably received a lot of complaints and they improved the product. They now sell it with a mounting bracket (although that one is 30 litres while the previous one was 15 litres) which supports the weight from below. We have been washing utensils with this water for 1.5 years - we see no side effect
And in case you find yourself needing to push the existing taps/fittings away from the wall to make space for this tank, use the 4 inch extension pipes like I did.
Update on August 2025:
The m-seal fix finally gave way and the tank started leaking again, so ordered a new one
So, the life of the tank when hung from its built-in mount is 3 years 7 months (including that one time m-seal fix)
